The YOUSTA Story: How Reliance Built India's Gen Z Brand

August 18, 2025 · 7 min read

Reliance's Gen Z Bet

In August 2023, Reliance Retail quietly launched YOUSTA as a dedicated Gen Z fashion format. While Reliance already had Trends (mass market) and AJIO (premium online), YOUSTA was purpose-built for the 16-24 age group that was gravitating toward Zudio and international fast fashion.

The Strategy

YOUSTA's playbook is straightforward: take global streetwear trends, adapt them for Indian tastes and body types, and price everything under ₹999. The weekly drop model creates urgency, and the sub-₹500 sweet spot for most items eliminates purchase hesitation.

Rapid Expansion

In its first year, YOUSTA expanded to over 55 standalone stores across 27 Indian cities. The brand also launched on Amazon India and JioMart, giving digital-native Gen Z shoppers the online convenience they expect.

What Makes YOUSTA Different

YOUSTA isn't just another budget brand. The design team studies global streetwear, K-pop fashion, and Indian campus culture to create collections that feel genuinely relevant. The in-store experience features bold purple branding, curated playlists, and a layout designed for social media content creation.

The Road Ahead

With Reliance Retail's infrastructure behind it, YOUSTA has the resources to scale rapidly. The brand is expanding its product categories, increasing its Amazon presence, and building a community of Gen Z brand ambassadors across Indian colleges.
